Built on Guard Feedback
We regularly ask guards what would make TacDesk better for their daily work. Two requests came up repeatedly: a dark mode for night shifts and push notifications so they don’t miss shift changes. Both are now live.
Dark Mode
Guards working night shifts know the problem — a bright white screen in a dark environment is blinding, tiring, and can compromise their night vision. TacDesk now includes a dark mode toggle that switches the entire interface to a dark colour scheme.
Dark mode isn’t just cosmetic. For guards patrolling dimly lit sites, a bright phone screen makes them more visible and less able to see their surroundings. A dark interface reduces glare and helps guards maintain situational awareness.
Guards can toggle dark mode manually from their profile settings, and the preference persists across sessions.
Push Notifications
TacDesk now sends push notifications to guards’ phones for important events:
- Shift assignments — instant notification when you’re assigned a new shift
- Schedule changes — alerts when a shift time, site, or assignment changes
- Check call prompts — welfare check notifications that require acknowledgement
- Holiday request updates — approval or decline notifications
- Open shift alerts — notifications when shifts become available to claim
Push notifications work whether TacDesk is open or not, as long as the guard has installed TacDesk as an app on their phone. This means guards never miss a shift change because they weren’t checking the app.
Manager Notifications
Managers also receive push notifications for events requiring their attention — new incident reports, missed check calls, escalation alerts, and holiday requests awaiting approval. The goal is to bring important information to you rather than requiring you to constantly check the dashboard.
Notification Preferences
Both guards and managers can customise which notifications they receive, so they’re only alerted about things that matter to them. Nobody wants notification fatigue.
