Where Did That Radio Go?
Security companies issue significant amounts of equipment to guards — radios, body-worn cameras, torches, uniforms, ID badges, site keys, first aid kits, and more. When a guard leaves the company or moves to a different site, recovering all issued equipment is often a challenge.
TacDesk’s new kit management feature provides a clear record of what’s been issued to whom, and what’s outstanding.
How It Works
Managers record equipment issuing through the management dashboard:
- Item type — radio, body camera, uniform, torch, key set, etc.
- Serial number or identifier — for tracking individual items
- Issued to — which guard has the item
- Issue date — when it was given out
- Condition — new, good, fair, poor
- Notes — any relevant details
When equipment is returned, it’s marked as returned with the date and condition. Damaged or lost items are flagged for replacement.
Guard Equipment Profile
Each guard’s profile shows all equipment currently issued to them. When a guard leaves or transfers, managers can see exactly what needs to be recovered — no guessing, no arguments about what was issued.
Why It Matters
Equipment costs add up. A lost radio might cost £200 to replace. A body-worn camera, £300+. Multiply these losses across a team of 50 guards with typical turnover rates, and you’re looking at thousands of pounds annually in equipment that simply disappears.
Clear records also prevent disputes. When a guard denies being issued an item, or claims they returned something they didn’t, the kit management log provides a definitive record.
Accountability and Professionalism
Beyond cost control, kit management supports professional standards. Guards who know their equipment is tracked take better care of it. Managers can quickly identify guards who frequently lose or damage equipment. And for ACS audits, equipment management records demonstrate operational professionalism.
