A guard doesn't show up for a shift and the first anyone hears about it is the client, the next morning, asking why the site was empty overnight.
What most firms do today
A phone call at the start of the shift to confirm someone's on site, and then silence until the next call, or until something goes wrong. If a guard leaves early, nobody in the office knows until somebody rings.
How TacDesk does it
While a guard is clocked in, their phone sends its position back to TacDesk every five minutes by default.
On the management dashboard, the Guards on Duty list shows everyone who is clocked in right now. For each guard it shows the site they clocked into, when their phone last reported its position, with a link to see that spot on a map, and where they were when they filed their last report. The list refreshes itself every ten seconds while you have it open, so a guard who clocks in or out appears or drops off without you reloading the page.
The list doesn't send alerts itself. What catches a guard who hasn't turned up is the rota: if a guard on a scheduled shift hasn't clocked in, they and your on-call managers (your senior managers, if nobody is on call) get a push alert at 5, 15 and 30 minutes late. See rota and scheduling.
That position comes on top of the clock-in itself, which records where the phone was at the moment the guard tapped. See GPS clock in and out for how that works and how a clock-in away from the site is flagged.
This is a list, not a map. The live map with every guard plotted on it, and assigning guards to incidents from it, is Dispatcher Mode.
Why it matters
You can check who's on shift without ringing round. The answer to "is anyone at the warehouse yet?" is on the dashboard, with the time their phone last checked in.
It backs up what you tell clients. When a client asks whether their site was covered, the clock-in and clock-out records show who was there, when, and where their phone was when they tapped.
Where it sits
Every plan, TacFree included. The Guards on Duty list and background location come with the same clock-in every plan gets.
Be clear on what it isn't. There's no map view of your whole workforce here; that's Dispatcher Mode, and the pricing page shows which plans include it. The background location trail is kept for 24 hours, so for questions about last week, the clock-in and clock-out records are what you go back to.
